Lorraine G. Hart Obituary

In Loving Memory

Lorraine Goldsmith Hart, lived in White Plains for over 76 years and was 98 years old when she passed from this life into heaven on March 9, 2025. She was born October 28, 1926 in Vermont, to mother Marjorie Goldsmith and father Wallis Goldsmith. She married her loving husband of 71 years, Stanley Merrell Hart, April 7, 1947 in Port Chester, NY.

Lorraine and Merrell have two daughters, Susan (Perry) Jones of Ravena, NY and Nancy (Timothy) Egan of White Plains, NY. Lorraine's husband predeceased her in 2018.

Lorraine has 4 grandchildren, Andrew (Tara) Jones, Rachel (Travis) Woronowicz, Kathleen (Paul) Alvarez and Emily (Blake) Pietrangelo, and 6 great grandchildren, Sam & Anna Woronowicz, Brendan & Madison Alvarez and Chloe and Tyler Pietrangelo.

Before her marriage Lorraine graduated from Traphagen School of Fashion and worked in Manhattan as a seamstress and designer of wedding gowns. Then she became a homemaker who was creative in all of her endeavors including serving Christ by running the Altar Guild for many years at St. Bartholomew’s Church in White Plains. As President of the White Plains Garden Club she won a number of awards in a variety of flower shows. Lorraine gave numerous lectures on the art of flower arranging and seasonal decorating while she also worked for a florist on special events and weddings in Port Chester and for the Carriage House in White Plains.

Lorraine was an avid seamstress, making and designing clothing for her daughters, grandchildren, friends and neighbors. Lorraine also enjoyed knitting ski sweaters, and doing re-upholstery. But camping is where she most enjoyed her six months a year with Merrell in New Hampshire, where she had a deep love for her friends in Surry. She also spent vacations and summers in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

We lovingly remember how our mother, grandmother and friend helped and served us generously through the years. She also loved to entertain and make every occasion special.

Lorraine honored God by faithfully loving and caring for her family. We thank God for her thankful heart, sweet smile and our many memories.
