James Leonard (Jimmy) Smith, born on March 2, 1952, passed away on March 9, 2025.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Leonard and Flora Nell Smith.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joanne Esco Smith; two sons, Wes (Elizabeth) Smith and Chris (Elizabeth) Smith; three grandchildren, Marshall, Eleanor, and Marie Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Dave Goins; and many nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was employed by the Alabama Department of Revenue for 25 years. He farmed for 50 years in the Lightwood Community, growing cotton and soybeans. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing music with friends.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has helped care for Jimmy and Joanne for many years, including Cindy and Robert Raybon, Karen and Kenny Williams, Nurse Jenny Blackburn, Aides Shannon Oates and Jessica Oates, and many other special family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Union Congregational Christian Church on Thursday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m., with the service following at 2:00 p.m. A reception for family and friends will be held in the fellowship hall.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Smith, Kenny Williams, Bo Johnson, Chase Adams, Donny Wilson, and Curt Wilson. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert Raybon.
