Charles Edward Dudley

Charles, also affectionately known as “Son” and “Pete” was born the son of the late Elean Harris and Arthur Charles Dudley on September 8, 1943, in Temple, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age. Charles graduated from Dunbar Jr. Sr. High School in 1962. Where he was voted most likely to succeed. After high school in 1962, he attended Temple Junior College where he was an exceptional athlete and the first African-American Co-Captain of the Basketball Team and he was on the Track & Field Team. He later attended Mexico State University and Paul Quinn College where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later he attended Prairie View A & M College where he received his Master’s Degree. In 1966-1970, he served in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After being discharged from the Navy in 1970, he returned to Temple, Texas, where he worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. After working 33 years, he retired as a Locomotive Engineer on May 22, 2003. He married Bettie Lou White on December 29, 1976, in Temple, Texas. And to this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elean Brown, his father, Arthur Charles Dudley and his loving step-father John B. Brown, and a step-sister, Doris Marie Goodwin.<br>Survivors are his wife, Bettie Lou Dudley of Temple; four children, Byron K. Dudley of Atlanta, Georgia; Cedric Charles Dudley, Charlonda Pittman all of Temple, and Dibbi Davis of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Harriet Garnet of Temple; two step-brothers Arthur Brown of Dallas, and Johnny Brown of Charleston, South Carolina; eight step-sisters, Gwendolyn Butler of Augusta, Georgia, Yvonne Wright of Vallejo, California, Sheila St. Field of Pensacola, Florida, Maryanne Williams of Lakeland, Florida, Connie Sue Gilmore of Temple, Vivian Hinant of Miami, Florida, Gertrude Roby of Kansas City, Kansas, and Barbara Spann of Kansas City, Missouri, <br>and seven grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.<br>
