Obituary for Betty Jean (Fatzinger) White

Betty was born April 4, 1940, in Tonopah, Nevada to Robert and Dorothy Fatzinger. Her parents met in Nevada while her father was a US mining engineer. After moving all around the country, the family settled in Wheat Ridge, Colorado where her father taught physics at the local high school. Betty attended Wheat Ridge High School where she started dating her future husband, Michael White. Betty attended Denver University and got her ABA degree in 1960, and shortly thereafter married Mike, who was a student at Colorado University. She worked at Boulder High School as a Counselor’s secretary until Mike’s graduation, at which during the ceremony she was given an honorary PHT degree (Putting Hubby Through).

In 1966, the family, that now included daughter Kimberly Blair and son Randall David moved to Taipei, Taiwan where Betty worked as a Counselor’s secretary for 7 years. The family then moved to Singapore and now included daughter Heidi Michelle and son Bradley Stewart. Betty held a few jobs in Singapore including stenographer for a series of trials in that country. In 1975, the family moved to Isfahan, Iran where she worked as the secretary to the Counselor and then to the High School Principal. The family was evacuated from Iran when the Ayatollah arrived during the Iranian revolution, after which they decided to move back to the United States and settled in Princeton, New Jersey. Betty worked for International School Services as well as raised her 4 children until they moved again in 1981. Her final destination and where she lived for the rest of her years were in Humble, Texas.

Betty was an avid reader. Her love for books allowed her to donate around 150 of her finished books to the Kingwood Library each year. She also had a love for the game of Bridge. She played duplicate bridge with her “bridge ladies” every Friday for the past 35 years. Betty was also an exceptional cook and was taught by her own mother to cook many great dishes from scratch. Two of the family favorites are her green chili and her spaghetti. We are happy that her children and grandchildren can now carry on her recipes. Betty was known for her sometimes blunt and colorful language and was the center of family celebrations. We wouldn’t have wanted her any other way!

Betty is survived by her husband, Michael; her 4 children, Kimberly, Randall, Heidi and Bradley; her 7 grandchildren (oldest to youngest), Sheridan, Stewart, Mackenzie, Alexandria, Mitchell, Lauren and Emily; and her 2 great-grandchildren, Liam and Reese. She is also survived by her brother Chuck Fatzinger in Denver. Betty was dearly loved by all and will be tremendously missed but will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
