Edward F. Matthis age 88 of Marion, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Marion General Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1936 in Vandergrift, Pa., to the late J. Ulrich and Anna (Dryer) Matthis.
Edward graduated in 1954 from Vandergrift High School in Vandergrift, Pa.
On December 15, 1990 he married Joyce (Ruhl) Matthis in Mansfield, Ohio.
He was employed for many years as Pattern Maker at United Engineering for 19 years in Vandergrift, Pa., General Motors for 13 years in Ontario, Oh., and co-owner of Apolo Pattern in Apollo, Pa.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, putting together models, fishing, hunting and woodworking. But most of all he enjoyed taking trips on his Harley Davidson with his wife.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 34 years, Joyce Matthis of Marion, OH., his daughters, Pam (Bob) Kiser of Leechburg, PA., Suelynn (Greg) Howe of Moundsville, WV., step-son, Jimmie “Jim” (Tonya) Goossens of Perrysville, OH., numerous grandchildren, his sister, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Creech of Fayetteville, NC., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, J. Ulrich and Anna Matthis, his first wife, Ada (Quillen) Matthis, son, Edward Matthis II, step-son, Keith Goossens and his two brothers, Ulrich Matthis and Fredrick Matthis.
No services will be observed, burial will take place at a later date in Pennsylvania.
