William John “Jack” Winkelaar.
1932 - 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Winkelaar announce his passing at the age of 92 at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops. He will be dearly missed by his wife Ruth, daughters Janice, Lisa and Susan, son-in-laws John, Andrew and Joe, grandchildren Abigail, Sean, Matthew, Samuel and Eve and brother Rae.
Jack was born in 1932 in Alberta, He opened his first dental practice in Edmonton where he met his wife Ruth. Jack and Ruth moved from Edmonton in 1964 to establish his long-time dental practice in Kamloops. “Dr. Jack” was well-known as a caring, personable dentist and was fondly remembered by former patients even in his 92nd year.
Jack and Ruth raised horses on their hobby farm in Barnhartvale for many years. Jack was a keen fisherman, an active curler and very involved in the local car community. He had a life-long passion for wheeling and dealing cars and over his lifetime bought and sold a multitude of vehicles including two vintage Austin Healey sports cars one of which was awarded “Best of Show” in Kamloops’ “Hot Night in the City” competition.
Those who knew Jack will remember him for his easy smile and sense of humour. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen, leaving a lasting impression on many. He was extremely proud of his family and will be greatly missed. Though his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.
Jack’s family would like to thank the staff on the 8th floor of Royal Inland Hospital and Marjorie Willoughby Hospice for their kindness and caring. In lieu of flowers our family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation or the Marjorie Willoughby Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 1 pm at the Dallas Barnhartvale Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2025 at 6703 Blackwell Road in Kamloops from 1-4 pm. All are welcome.
