Judith Ann Fraine

Judith Ann "Judy" Fraine (née Chittock), 81, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Sterling, Virginia, with both of her children by her side and under the loving care of her nursing team.

Born on March 31, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Judy led a life enriched by music, education, service, and devotion to her family and faith. She pursued higher education with a passion for learning, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She began her studies at Concordia Lutheran College and completed her degree at San Diego State University. This love for learning remained throughout her life.

Judy’s life was deeply influenced by her family's military background. As the proud daughter of Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Chittock and Eleanora Chittock, she experienced a dynamic upbringing that took her across New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Hawaii, and even Saudi Arabia. Later in life, as the wife of a Naval Lieutenant Commander, she continued this adventurous journey living in California, Guam, Virginia, and Puerto Rico.

Despite frequent relocations due to her family's military background, Judy built strong connections within each community she joined, and these experiences instilled in her a deep appreciation for different cultures and international affairs. She eventually settled in Alexandria, Virginia, for almost forty years. There, she immersed herself in her church, local and military communities, politics, and spending time with family and friends.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of the Lutheran Church, Judy found strength and purpose in her beliefs. She found great joy in singing as a coloratura soprano in the church choir and contributed her artistic talents by creating vestments for worship services. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and an inspiration to those around her.

Judy had an extraordinary memory for details and was known for her thoughtfulness. She enjoyed reading extensively and expressing herself through creation of intricate needlepoint art. Her intellectual curiosity extended to political discussions and global affairs—topics she followed with great interest throughout her life.

Judy is survived by her son Ken Fraine and his wife Melissa; her daughter Michelle Quadt and her husband David; and her beloved grandchildren Xander, Isabelle, and Sophia Quadt; as well as Tyler, Ryan, and Jack Fraine. She also leaves behind dearly loved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her parents Lewis and Eleanora Chittock and her sister Nancy Henry Lasley.

A memorial service will be held on March 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church, located at 43115 Waxpool Rd., Broadlands, Virginia.

The family kindly requests that, instead of flowers, donations be made in Judy's memory to the Lupus Foundation of America at lupus.org/donate. This organization is dedicated to finding a cure for lupus and supporting those affected by the disease, which Judy courageously battled for over six decades.

Judy’s legacy lives on through the love she shared with those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
