Gwendolyn Louisa Galloway McKinley, was born July, 9th 1932 to the parents of Allen and Bessie Galloway Whittner in Clemson/Pickens County, South Carolina. She grew up in Abel Baptist Church where she participated in many activities including singing God's praises in the choirs. She graduated from Pendleton High School, Pendleton County. She attended Wesleyan Methodist College and received an Associate's degree in Accounting/ Bookkeeping and business skills. Gwen migrated to Cleveland, Ohio during the mid fifties and was welcomed at one of the legendary Phyllis Wheatley Women's Club and Home: Established to Empower Black Women searching for a better life. She worked as an accountant Cleveland in a private firm from 1966 to 1989. Gwen, affectionately known as "O.G." landed a fantastic position at Central Collection of Taxation- Cleveland, Ohio as an accountant from August 30, 1989 and retired after 25 years in 2014. Gwen relocated to San Antonio in September 2015 to be near her daughter and family and began her new adventures in Texas. She started traveling the World, enjoying her life. Her famous saying was... "Kicking, But Not High!!" She enjoyed traveling to various interesting locations frequently with her only child, Tina Sanders to include, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Mannheim . Munich, The Oktoberfest (2016 & 2017) Germany. She relished in places like: Paris, France; Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Santorini and Athens Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Brussels, Lido and Venice, but her most memorable trip was "Mass with the Pope" at The Vatican in Rome, Italy. Gwendolyn's special friends' families died in Auschwitz- Birkenau Concentration Camps in Poland during the Holocaust, and she loved paying homage 2016 and 2017 to each of their families' fallen members. Gwendolyn went home to be with the Lord on November 11th, 2018 after a short illness. Gwen was proceeded in death by her parents and spouses Governor Foust, (Tina's father) and Ralph McKinley both of whom participated in the Korean War Gwen is survived by her only daughter, Tina Foust (Earl) Sanders both retired from the United States Army and only granddaughter Starr Olivia Sanders, a senior at Texas State University. Gwen was also loved by our cats Gordon and Fritz Sanders "My Gwen" adored attending GRASP Senior Community Center on a daily basis for fun, fellowship and friends as well as praising the Lord at Second Baptist Church It was such a joy to introduce my mother to so many new actives in her life such as seeing her 1st sunset 2013 down by Lake Eric in Cleveland, Ohio. When my mom moved here with us she had her 1st manicure and pedicure, 1st time at the San Antonio Rodeo, 1st time ever going to A Native American Pow Wow. Took her to the beaches in Galveston in a bathing suit too!! O.G. had a wonderful time at The Essence Festival in New Orleans, 2017 and yes she had a BLAST!! Another 1st was in a Jacuzzi and yes she loved it so much she smiled all day. A host of relatives, friends, and loved ones will surely miss her contagious smile and kind words. 86 years young, Converse, Texas passed away November 11, 2018.
