Gayle McSwiggin, 74, of Muscatine passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at her home following a long battle with Parkinson’s.   Visitation for Gayle will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.  A memorial has been established for the Michael J. Marieta “Gayle” McSwiggin was born on April 15, 1950 in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Ward and Juanita (Uber) Scott.  Gayle was a 1968 graduate of Kirksville High School.  On July 28, 1968, Gayle was united in marriage to Gary L. Lewis.  To this union two daughters were born, Bobbi and Nikki.  Gayle and Gary later divorced but remained good friends.  On September 1, 1990 Gayle was united in marriage to John McSwiggin at Weed Park in Muscatine. 

Gayle worked for Kent Feeds and later retired from Muscatine General Hospital with over 20 years of service.   She did volunteer work as a rape assault advocate.  In her retirement, Gayle did childcare in her home.  Her and John were foster parents to many children.  Gayle was a member of Calvary Church, the Elks and Moose.  In her adult years Gayle took dance lessons and performed at a dance recital with both of her daughters.  She enjoyed sewing, going to the casino, making Christmas cookies and candies with the grandkids and going shopping with her gal pals.  Above all Gayle was a kind, caring person who dearly loved her family and being a wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. 

Gayle will be deeply missed by her husband, John of Muscatine; daughters, Bobbi (Brad) Whitlow of Muscatine and Nikki (Brad) Sander of Blue Grass; grandchildren, Grant, Gabriel and Grace Sander, Sydney (fiancé, Tanner Payne) Blashaw, Jaran Whitlow and Olivia Whitlow; great- grandchildren, Sky and Finn; step-children, Heather McSwiggin and Melissa McSwiggin and her son, Lennyx Pegump, all of Cedar Rapids and Patrick (Marie) McSwiggin of Fridley, Minnesota and siblings, Ed (Helen) Scott of Kirksville and Dick (Becky) Scott of Bushnell, Florida. 

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Kathy Scott.
