Robert A. Payne – Age 87, husband of the late Carol E. (Paul) Payne died peacefully Sunday, March 9th at Brightview Concord River in Billerica.


He was born in Boston, May 28, 1937, son of the late Thomas and Frances (Morrissey) Payne. He was raised in Boston before moving to Billerica in 1967.


Robert worked HVAC for over 50 years. He opened his first shop, Mechanical Cooling, on Mission Hill in Roxbury, in 1974 and Payne Mechanical in Burlington in the 90’s. He was actively involved in the Pipefitters Union for many years. He loved the ocean and sailing on his boat.


He is survived by his daughters, Janine Payne and her husband Michael Schneir of Walnut Creek, CA, and Alexis Payne of Billerica; his sisters, Arlene O’Hea of E. Bridgewater, Sandra Boudreau of Taunton, Carol Payne of Taunton, Linda Connolly of Littleton and Deborah Connolly of Westford, and his brother, Paul Payne of Plymouth; He is also survived by his grandson, Elijah Ambrose Schneir. He was the brother of the late Leslie, Raymond, Thomas, David Payne, Geraldine McSorley and Joan Payne.


Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, March 13 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org
