Nelda Duncan Barnett Obituary
Nelda Duncan Barnett, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025. She was born on June 6, 1937 in Owensboro to the late Henry and Dorothy Duncan. Nelda retired as the director of the Maplebrook Village Christian Church Homes of Kentucky. She was a member and Elder of First Christian Church where she was also past chairman of the general board. Nelda served on many boards including; President of A.A.R.P. of Kentucky and also National A.A.R.P. Board for 8 years, Elizabeth Munday Senior Citizen Center, Kentucky Association for Gerontology, Aging Council of G.R.A.D.D., Owensboro Women’s Club, Executive Board of Audubon Area Community Services.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William “Bill” Barnett; and siblings, Howard Duncan, Shirley Adams, and David Duncan.
Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Rice and her husband, Byron of Owensboro and Dona Johnson and her husband, Terry of Philpot; grandchildren, Luke Johnson (Jessica) of Philpot, Ben Rice (Michelle) of Hermitage, TN, Jordan Johnson (Emily) of Bowling Green, Lacey Schroader (Shaun) of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Braelynn Johnson, Jayden Johnson, Oliver Rice, Blake-Everly Schroader, Iris Rice, Mason Johnson, Sebastian Johnson, Anastasia Johnson, and arriving in late summer, a baby girl Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at First Christian Church, in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at First Christian Church.
