Thomas “Mike” Walker
Mike Walker, 89, of Roscommon, Michigan, died at home with his family by his side, on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Mike Walker was the second son of Paul I. (Wyrzykowski) Walker and Marion (Sellars) Walker of Detroit, Michigan. He was born on September 16, 1935. He served in the United States Army after high school and was stationed in Germany. Before deployment, he met his wife, Mary, with whom he corresponded all the while in uniform and they married on February 15, 1958. Mike and Mary were married 64 ½ years before her death in 2022. They moved to Higgins Lake in 1975, and he opened Mike Walker Plumbing. He was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Gerrish Township. Mike was a plumber from 1954-1986, served on the Board of Plumbers Local 98, as Secretary, Vice President, Chairman of the Executive Board and as a Business Agent. He was a Master Plumber and a Plumbing Inspector for the State of Michigan at the time he retired.
Mike was an athlete, like his parents and Brother, Paul “Skip” Walker. He placed third in Detroit High School diving his senior year and he enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing baseball throughout his life. He was an avid fan of his kids’ successes, with special memories of his son, Mike’s, sports and business career; daughter, Tricia’s, ministry and media career; and daughter, Kris’s, business and nursing careers. He and Mary were seen around Roscommon and Houghton Lake nearly every day while they lived in Prudenville and were favorite customers of local store employees, Roscommon Insurance, and restaurant servers around the area. Tammy from Lakeside, and Jodie, formerly of Buccilli’s, were two of their favorites and were considered part of their family. Mike and Mary were active members at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the 1970-80’s and then St. Hubert & St. James the Greater, through the 90’s and again when they returned to Prudenville from Grand Blanc in 2010. He served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Choir Member, and Greeter, and participated on many of the social committees. Mike & Mary especially enjoyed spending time with nieces, nephews, 11+ grandkids and 16+ great grandchildren. With a quick wit and generous heart, Mike made everyone feel like a great friend and was well-loved by family and community alike.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Skip (Loretta) Walker; wife, Mary; brother-in-law, Louis (Patricia) Char; son-in-law, Jim Smith; and nieces, Lyn & Sue; and nephew, Joseph. He leaves behind his son, Michael L. (Beth Barber) Walker, whose family includes Michael (Kristen) Walker, Matthew (Sophia) Walker, Laura (Tyler) Watters; and bonus grandkids, Chris Barber and Emily Barber; daughter, Tricia (Scott) Harmon, with their children: Mary Beth (Kyle) Cambre, Kaela Lundstrom, Mark J. (Amber) Parrent, Hudson Parrent, Moriah Parrent, Leah (Alan) Hurst, and Marion Parrent; and bonus grandkids, Andrew Harmon & Emma Sinclair; daughter, Kris Walker Smith; and grandson, Thomas “TJ” (Alexa) Gosselin. Loving nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart as well, including Paul, Steve, Chris, Peter, Teresa, Judi, Kathryn, Kathy, Cheryl, and Sue.
