Alice Marie Bradl Obituary

BRADL

Alice M. (Suess)

"Age 97, on March 9,2025, Alice moved onto her eternal life.

She grew up 5th of ten children and later raised a family of 4 daughters with her husband, Joe, on the South Side Slopes, only two doors from her parent’s home.  Preceded in death by her father, Joseph, and her mother, Monica Suess, and her husband, Joseph L. Bradl, of 50 years, and her daughter, Patricia (George) Ryden.  Mother of Joan (Frank) Fereday, Mary Ellen (Frank) Adam, Margie (James) Samolovitch, Grandmother of Carla, Roxanne, George, Angela, Frank, Michelle, Jeanine, James, and Stephanie, and 12 great grandchildren.  Her late sisters were Loretta Kreuer, Eva Szymkowiak, Lavina Rigot, and, now surviving sisters are Lorraine Mezyk, and Norma Muehlbauer.  Her late brothers were Albert, Edward, Kenneth, and Joseph Suess.

Lasting family memories were made at the cottage near Moraine State Park that Joe and Alice purchased in 1960.  Alice was a hands-on lady who helped her husband with many home improvements tasks.  Overall, they enjoyed many happy times with their young children and later with their grandchildren at the cottage.  Alice spent almost 90 years of her life on Sumner Street on the South Side Slopes where she loved to garden.  Her passion for gardening was legendary for its variety and abundance.  The produce went to feed many neighbors, friends, and family.  She always held a deep appreciation for music and loved to sing.  She sang with church choir at Saint Henry’s Roman Catholic Church on Arlington Avenue for many years.  In early 2020 she moved into Fair Oaks Senior Living on West Liberty Avenue where she enjoyed herself by listening to her music and participating in many activities.  She enjoyed playing Bingo in the Activities Room and playing cards with her friends almost every night.  She could often be found on the Fourth Floor Sitting area putting jig saw puzzles together with help from her daughters.  Ingrid Kalchthaler, the chaplain there, provided much spiritual comfort to her over her years at Fair Oaks and noted her outgoing personality in the monthly magazine.  Alice was devoted to the Blessed Mother.  She led Rosary prayers each Monday in the chapel.  Alice had a deep belief in the importance of family life and in her Catholic faith that she tried to live out every day. When Ingrid asked her what the best advice that she got from her parents she said this: be kind to others…. live by the Golden Rule."

Thanks to Gallagher Hospice Care for help in her last days.
