Deborah G. Clymer Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Deborah (Della Penna) Clymer, who departed this world peacefully on March 9th, 2025, at Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her three daughters.

Deborah was born on March 2nd, 1951, to Betty and Robert Carter. She was a lifelong resident of Austintown, Ohio, and a proud graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, Class of 1969. Shortly after high school, she began working at Strouss Department Store, but her greatest and most cherished role in life was that of a devoted wife, mother, and Nana.

From the time they were in seventh grade, Deborah shared her life with her high school sweetheart, Bruce B. Clymer. Their love story spanned a lifetime, and they were married for 54 beautiful years until his passing in October of 2024.

Deborah found joy in raising her three daughters and spoiling her seven beloved grandchildren. She had a passion for photography and painting, often sharing her creativity with her grandchildren, making lasing memories. An avid reader, she found comfort in books and enjoyed passing that love of literature on to her family. Family gatherings were made even more special by Deborah’s spaghetti dinners, always prepared with love, and served with her famous meatballs.

Deborah graduated from Choffin Career Center as a surgical technician and worked in various offices within the field. Later, she also enjoyed working at JC Penny in Austintown.

Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; her parents, Betty and Robert; her sister, Carol; and her brother, James. She is survived by her daughters, Shannon Handel (Mike), Amy Crawford (Steven), and Katie Clymer-Hathaway (Vinnie). She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren; Madeline, Elizabeth, Sarah, Nathan, Paige (Michael), Chloe and Bruce. She is also survived by her older brother, Edward “Butch” Della Penna, her niece Maureen Della Penna and her faithful furry companion, Charlie.

Deborah will be remembered for her kind spirit, her artistic soul, and the unwavering love she had for her family. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that she had been reunited with Bruce and those who went before her. Per her wishes, the family will hold a private memorial to celebrate Deborah’s life. Deborah will be deeply missed, but her love and legacy will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
