Ciro Ficarra passed away on March 9, 2025 at 90 years old. A man always on the move, Ciro lived life with relentless energy and kept the pace of his youth well into his later years. He was a man of strong will, believing in doing things on his own terms. Even as time took its toll, he was still found digging in his garden, where upwards of 80 tomato plants flourished, giving him the bounty for countless jars of homemade sauce that became a proud tradition. His garden was his pride and joy, where cucuzza, cherries, figs, lettuce, fennel, and a variety of herbs grew abundantly, each plant a reflection of his care and dedication.
Though Ciro often wished for more time in school, his life was a testament to the wisdom that came from sharp instincts and hands-on experience. He had a remarkable ability to revive struggling plants and could detect a pipe leak without any instruments. His cooking and baking skills were legendary, with a precise touch honed over time, guided by nothing but feel.
Ciro was a steadfast pillar of the family, and his children and grandchildren will deeply feel the loss of his commanding presence, which brought both strength and warmth to their lives. Above all, we will miss the unexpected songs he would sing, his playful riddles, his incredible wine, and the perfectly brewed espresso he crafted with love and care. Ciro leaves behind a legacy of resilience, humor, and a life well lived.
Ciro was predeceased by his loving wife, Antonina Ficarra, and is survived by his children: Anthony, Josephine (Tony) and Anna Maria, whose late husband was Nicholas. He was a cherished grandparent to Alessandra (Nick), Elizabeth, Alissa (Scott), Michael, Melia, Robert, and Salvatore, as well as a loving great-grandparent to Luca and Olivia.
