Elizabeth Boardwine "Scotti" Hartman, a beacon of kindness and generosity, was called home on March 9, 2025, in Salem, VA, leaving behind a legacy of selfless love and unwavering support. Born on November 1, 1973, in Roanoke, VA, Scotti was a cherished soul whose radiant spirit was evident from the very beginning. She was a proud graduate of Roanoke College, class of 1995, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and cultivated lifelong friendships, particularly as a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
Scotti's professional life was a testament to her dedication to serving others. For 27 years, she worked at Richfield Care and Recovery Center, where she touched the lives of countless individuals with her compassionate care. In the last three years of her life, Scotti served as the Vice President of Good Samaritan Hospice, further extending her reach of care and comfort to those in their final stages of life. Her commitment to her community was also reflected in her role on the Board of Directors for the Salem YMCA and her active participation in the Salem Rotary Club.
Beyond her professional and community service, Scotti was a pillar of strength and support in her personal life. She was the proud and devoted mother to her son, Jackson Hartman. Her role as a mother extended beyond her own family, as she was affectionately known as the second mom to the Glenvar High School football boys, for whom she was an unwavering supporter. Scotti's presence at the games was more than just a cheer; it was a symbol of her belief in the potential of every young person.
Scotti's family was her world, and she was the heart of theirs. She leaves behind her loving husband, Howard; her son, Jackson; her brother, Roger Boardwine (Mary); and her sister, Susan Dorsey. Her surviving uncle, "Papa" Glenn Bowe, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Sylvia Hamilton; her parents, Warren Alexander Boardwine and Rosemary Hamilton Boardwine; her sister, Diana Schmaal; her uncle, Billy Hamilton; her aunt, Anne Bowe; and her cousin, Ashley Bowe, who were all part of the rich tapestry of her life.
The words that best describe Scotti are kind, generous, and selfless. These are not just words, but the principles by which she lived her life. She had an innate ability to see the good in people and to bring out the best in them. Her spirit of giving was not confined to her actions, it was a part of her very essence. Scotti's life was a lesson in love, a reminder that the most profound impact one can have is to uplift others.
