Darrell Monroe Moody 68, went home to Jesus March 09, 2025, surrounded by family at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC.
A native of Franklin, NC he has been a lifelong resident of Gaston County, he was born April 28, 1956 to the late David Marshall & Blonnie Alegra Young Moody.
He spent his life taking care of others. After graduating from the Mary Ellen Nelson Center in 1977 he began a 20-year career with the Gaston County Schools working in the cafeteria at North Gaston High School in Dallas, NC. He retired in May 1998.
Darrell was a member of Boy Scout Troop 502 and was a founding member of the Saturday Morning Bowlers. In 1995, Darrell was selected to represent the state of North Carolina in the World Special Olympic Games in New Haven, Connecticut. He was surround by his family as he won 2 Gold metals and 1 Silver metal in bowling against international youth from several countries from all over the world. He is the only sibling who went to Yale University. This is where the athletes where housed for the games.
During summer months and after retirement he volunteered at Holy Angles assisting in the housekeeping department.
He was a long-time member of the Great Adventures Club sponsored by Holy Angles. Through this program he helped to build a house for Habitat among other volunteer opportunities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel Richard Moody.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, David Marshall Moody, Jr and wife Regina Marie Peters Moody, and their son Kevin David Moody and wife Alison Aldridge Hoggard Moody and their children Parker David Moody and Griffin Hayes Moody; his sister Debra Marie Moody Pendleton Harrold and husband Johnny Harrold, her son Everette O’Neil Pendleton, III and wife Sherry Dian Penley Pendleton, and their children Landon O’Neil Pendleton and Cheyenne Grace Pendleton; and her daughter Jennifer Marie Pendleton Branch and her children Jayden Marshall Pendleton and Dagan Linsey Branch; and his brother, Douglas Martin Moody who was his Primary Caregiver.
During Darrell’s later years, in addition to the family care, he was cared for by Nurses from Bayada Home Health Care. To these devoted ladies and gentlemen, the family would like to Thank You for your love and support of Darrell over the years.
Graveside services will be held at 12 PM March 12, 2025 at the Gaston Memorial Park, Luke Section. Pastor George Ragsdale and Father Dennis Kuhn are officiating with special music provided by Renee Painter.
Family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Darrell’s Life was not measured in years alone but, In the Love, he gave to all the lives he touched.
