Starr A. Tyrell (nee Layton), 72, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at her home in Franklinville, NJ.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, to Warren and Mary Jane Layton, Starr was raised in Glassboro and graduated from Glassboro High School in 1971. She later married John Tyrell and went on to earn a degree in Education from Glassboro State College.

Starr dedicated 26 years to teaching elementary special education in Franklin Township and Clayton. She was also deeply committed to her community, volunteering with Shadow Equestrian and Angels Community Outreach. A devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Clayton, she served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School for many years, and offered her time wherever she was needed.

Above all, Starr was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents Mary Jane and Warren Layton.

Starr is survived by her husband of 49 years John J. Tyrell, son Jason(Celess), grandsons Sean, Zachary, and James, brothers Reed(Lena) Layton and Brian Layton and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends may greet the family from 1030 AM to 1200 PM at the Joy Community Fellowship, 309 Florence Ave, Pitman, NJ on Friday, March 14th. A funeral service will be held at 1200 PM.
