Wilhelmina Gauthreaux Landry Obituary

Wilhelmina Gauthreaux Landry went to her heavenly home on March 9, 2025, at the golden age of 88. She was a wonderful person who was always there when needed. She had many friends (as she never met a stranger) and was a well-loved member of the community in St. James, LA. She was born to Ulysses and Florence Geason Gauthreaux in New Orleans, LA, on February 20, 1937. She was raised in Welcome, LA (now known as St. James) along with her ten siblings. She proudly shared the story of how a lady in the hospital named her after Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.

Wilhelmina was educated in the St. James Parish School System, graduating in the class of 1955. She obtained her bachelor's degree, master's, and 30+ hours in Education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She was kind hearted and a compassionate instructor who helped to impact the lives of her students by inspiring them to do their best. She received many honors and recognition for her work in the community, including being named Citizen of the Year in 1999 for St. James Parish.
