Geraldine "Jerri" Slusher Norton

Geraldine Slusher Norton, 88, Oak Ridge, passed away on November 24, 2018. Jerri was born on December 31, 1929 in Red Bird, Kentucky. She was an active member of Robertsville Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and held positions on several of the committees, including the personnel and pastor search committees. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and working crossword puzzles. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ernest and Hester Taylor; Husband, Robert Norton; Son, James Norton; Grandson, Christopher Grissom; Brothers, Ernest and James Taylor; Sister, Linda Berry, Son-in-law, Mike Grissom. Jerri is survived by: Son, Ernest Norton (Nancy), Charlotte, NC; Daughters, Lucie Kelly, Oak Ridge; Robin Melton, Charlotte, NC; Cathy Grissom, Knoxville; Sisters, Patricia Ray, Knoxville; Martha Litton, Kingston; Henrietta Elliott, Oak Ridge; Six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be in the form of donations to Robertsville Baptist Church, 251 Robertsville Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830 The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27th from 6 – 7:30 PM at Weatherford Mortuary with the funeral service to follow at 7:30 PM. Rev. Brian Scott and Dr. Michael Prince will officiate. The graveside service will be held Wednesday, 11:15 AM at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. An online guestbook may be signed at weatherfordmortuary.com

I was so sorry to read of Gerri’s passing. As you know, she was a long-time employee of the Anderson County School System as the Librarian while I was the Superintendent. Please express my condolences to her family. John Rice Irwin
