It is with deep sadness that the family announces Max’s passing on February 14th at the Dauphin Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. 

Max was born in Ste. Rose, Manitoba on April 19th 1952. Max spent his childhood growing up in Dauphin, Manitoba with many moves throughout Saskatchewan, BC and Manitoba. Max and Marilyn married on January 17th, 1976. They had three children, Charles, (late) Dawne and Chad. Grandchildren Jennifer, James, Elizabeth and Finley. Great grandchildren Vance, Halo and Branston. Max was pre-deceased by his parents James and Vietta Coombs. He was one of four children, (late ) Ed, (late ) Florance and Aileen. Max had many extended relatives. 

Max spent his life doing many different things over the years. He owned a tow truck company in Thompson, MB and he also had a roofing company in Dauphin called South Paw Construction. In his spare time he enjoyed working on vehicles and wheeling and dealing where he could. Max also spent several years with Kelleher Ford transporting vehicles. Over the years he also spent time doing work with scrap hauling.

Max’s home was always welcoming and open. You always knew that you could stop in for a coffee and a visit. Many visits were spent outside his home as people would pass by. He grew close to those around him in the neighbourhood. He lived life with a free spirit and always spent his time making sure to have a positive outlook on life, and constantly helping others. Max was the type of person that would always speak what was on his mind and often telling jokes. Max frequented Mc Donald’s for coffee until he became too unwell to go. He spent lots of time with friends and family. Max enjoyed driving, so he spent lots of time driving around backroads, to places he frequented growing up and his land where he described it to be peaceful.

Max was well known by many in the community. His everlasting kindness and giving personality will leave an emptiness in those who knew him. His ability to care for others and help in any way he could will be remembered forever. His jokes and funny sense of humour is something that many will never forget. 

A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.
