Mary Elizabeth ‘Penny’ (Hughes) Michalisin

Dec. 25, 1938 – Dec. 11, 2015

Mary Elizabeth “Penny” (Hughes) Michalisin, 76, Camp Hill, passed away Friday at ManorCare from a hard-fought 10-year battle with lymphoma.

She was born in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Charles M. Hughes and Dorothy W. Good.

Surviving are her husband, Ronald M. Michalisin; a son, Mark K.; a sister, Dottie Kinna; three brothers: Bob, Chuck and Dick Hughes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Penny was a 1956 graduate of Camp Hill High School and went to Slippery Rock University. She was an elementary school teacher at Foose Elementary School in Harrisburg and later continued teaching at W.H. McCreery Elementary School for 35 years.

Penny was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg and the Camp Hill Women’s Club. She loved children, her church and books, and she was known to make the best funnel cakes around.

A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

An additional celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg.
