GERALD E. "GERRY" MURPHY Obituary

Gerald “Gerry” Murphy, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Ibby”, passed away peacefully at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, OH on February 25, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Anna Murphy. Gordon Murphy was retired from the Lakewood Fire Department.


Gerry was a proud graduate of Lakewood High School class of 1954. He served his country and spent more than twenty years in the US Navy as a Seabee and rose to the rank of CECS Chief Petty Officer. He served several tours in Vietnam. Following retirement he worked as a building inspector for the city of Lakewood.


He continued his involvement with numerous Veterans organizations, maintaining life memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2533, American Legion Post #211, Western Reserve Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Knights Templar of Ohio, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 17, Chief Petty Officer Assoc. of Greater Cleveland, Disabled American Vets Chapter #108, and the Retired Seabee Association. Member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #579


Gerry is survived by his daughters Therese Eagle-Man (Eagle) and Mary Toth (Joseph), grandchildren Jennifer Borchardt and Kellie Toth, great grandchildren Austen Borchardt, Dustin Ellison, Mikayla Borchardt, Brandon Borchardt, and Hailey Borchardt.


FRIENDS MAY CALL THURSDAY, MARCH 6TH FROM 5 – 7 PM AT THE McGORRAY-HANNA FUNERAL HOME OF LAKEWOOD, 14133 DETROIT AVENUE, LAKEWOOD, OH. Military honors will be rendered. A Mass of Christian burial will be held  at St. James Church, 17514 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, OH 44107 on March 7th at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH at 1:15 PM
