With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Peter John Longarini on February 14, 2025, at the age of 75. A man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering compassion, Peter’s presence in this world left people and places better than he found them.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ellen Boyle; his daughters, Andrea and Laura; and his granddaughter, Ilsa – whose laughter, curiosity, and light became his greatest gift in his later years. He also leaves behind his sister, Louise, and brother-in-law, Bill; his niece, Sheena; his nephew, Sean; and a wide circle of friends and community members who were fortunate to know him.
Though Peter never sought the spotlight, he became a source of light for so many. His legacy isn’t found in grand gestures, but in the millions of small moments that left people stronger, more hopeful, and deeply cared for. Peter had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen and appreciated – his warm presence bringing calm assurance amid life’s challenges. A quiet constant in a noisy world, Peter’s steadfast belief in the goodness of people stands as a lasting testament to his character and the strength of his kindness.
Peter served as a Federal Parole Officer with the Correctional Service of Canada for 27 years, dedicating his life to helping individuals rebuild and reintegrate. His work wasn’t just a job – it was a reflection of his deep commitment to community, fairness, and the belief that everyone deserved a chance grow and change. Even after retiring, Peter continued to serve his community in quiet but meaningful ways, always seeking to leave people better than he found them.
He lived life with purpose yet carried it lightly. In his younger years, Peter embraced freedom on the open road, riding his motorcycle with the wind at his back, and carried a lifelong passion for cars – especially his cherished 442 – a reflection of his love for preserving and restoring beauty wherever he found it.
As time passed, the spirited adventures of his youth gracefully gave way to quieter, more reflective moments. He discovered deep joy in cooking for family and friends, finding solace in a good book, and serving his community with heartfelt humility.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Peter’s life and enduring legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, a cause close to Peter’s heart.
“His life was well-lived, and a light that will never dim.”
