George William Winder, 62, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. A native and lifelong resident of Poquoson, George was born on December 18, 1962, to Dora Ann and Ned Winder.
From childhood, George worked as a waterman, dedicating his life to the trade. A hardworking man, he took pride in his craft and became a master of it. He also enjoyed hunting and cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren. George loved telling stories of his wild past and was passionate about hunting. He also enjoyed big trucks and fast cars, placing football bets with friends and family, listening to rock and roll, attending concerts, and visiting Virginia Beach with his wife.
Preceded in death by his parents and special father, Marvin Winder; grandparents, George Wilber and Addie Lee Winder, George is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ilene Winder; children, Angel Forrest, Adam Winder and Jason Winder; grandchildren, Kaylie Forrest, Arya Winder, Taran Winder, Noah Winder, and Landon Winder; siblings, Ned Winder, Jr., Carol Mann and Marvin Winder; favorite niece, Hope Mann well as many other loving relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 23rd, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home. A service will take place beginning at 2 p.m. in the chapel. A brief committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 24th at Parklawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to go in procession from the funeral home must be present at Claytor Rollins by 2 p.m. sharp to line up for a police escort. Please be prepared to wait in your vehicles as we prepare everyone for the procession.
