Betty Parker Valek, 80, passed away suddenly Friday February 14, 2025 at her home in Matthews, NC. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret G. Parker, father, Theodore C. Parker, her husband Phil Valek, and two of her siblings, Peggy Parker Schlapkohl and Thomas Bruce Parker.
She is survived by her brother, Theodore Gregg Parker and his wife Janet Kaye Parker, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children, as well as the friends she loved so dearly, many since high school and some since elementary school. Betty loved her dogs and is also survived by her beloved Kelsey, who was always by her side.
Betty was a graduate of East Meckenburg High School and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her career spanned several industries, but her first and favorite position was as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. She always said there was something special about the roar of the engines which made her think of far away places and blue skies that made her feel closer to God.
Betty was a thoughtful and caring lady who loved people, cherished her friends, and when you saw her you were always greeted with a big smile and often a greeting of “Hello Precious, how are you today”. She was strong in her faith, having been an active member of Amity Presbyterian Church since her childhood.
Since Betty has chosen cremation there will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 8th at 11:00AM at Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 North Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the service. The family will conduct a private casting ceremony at one of Betty’s favorite locations.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 North Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte, NC 28205.
Thank you for loving Betty.
