Loretta A. (Cape) Marley Obituary

Loretta A. Marley, age 85, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025.

Loretta was a gentle soul and a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was without at doubt a “Homemaker Extraordinaire!”

She hosted countless family gatherings at the homestead on Harvey Road for decades. As agreed by all, her thanksgiving dinners have yet to be matched by anyone. Picnics, birthdays, Christmases, Easters, Sunday pot roast dinners, Loretta did not disappoint with her great cooking. Her yummy desserts were the perfect complement to her delicious meals.

Loretta attended dance classes at Aldersgate Church for many years and enjoyed her fellow classmates as well. She loved dancing at weddings and parties too. She took dance classes as a child. Reading a good book was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved music and often sang around the house. She knew all the lyrics to the musicals she would watch on TV. She had a good voice.

Yearly vacations at Red Point Beach when her children were young hold precious memories and cherished family times for all of us. Most recently, over the last several years, Loretta delighted in travelling to Lewes, DE to vacation at her daughter’s mobile home at the beach. She loved riding on the golf cart, the peacefulness, swimming in the pool, and going out to dinner. Loretta valued the simple things in life. Going to the beach was one of her “Happy Places”. We shall miss her dearly there.

Many times, her children would arrive home from grade school to find she had painted a room in the house and/or re-arranged the furniture!

Loretta and her late husband, Ron, travelled extensively around the country. From an early age, Loretta was mature, responsible, and dedicated to nurturing her family, which she continued to do throughout her life. She was a truly selfless mother and wife.

Loretta is survived by her children: Loretta, Ronald (Janice), Timothy (Maggie), and Michele Palmer (Mark); grandchildren: Adrienne (Rob), Brent (Amanda), Thomas Marley (Ashleigh), Jordan Palmer, and Brooke Palmer; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Lucas, and Mackenzie. She is also survived by four siblings.

Loretta was a beautiful woman who always looked lovely and dressed impeccably. Her sweet disposition and non-judgmental character was a true rarity in today’s world. She was grateful, humble, and content in her role in life in which she excelled.

Not long before her passing, Loretta stated that she felt the presence of the Lord she believed in while going through the difficult circumstances she was facing.

Loretta will be deeply and sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sister, and all her extended family members. She was a unique, precious, well-loved, and much adored woman. A light has gone out in the world, and we knew it immediately upon its dimming! We love you mom and life will never be the same without you!
