Durk Simmons, 64, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away November 11, 2018. Born in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Simon and Dorothy Simmons. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed collecting dragons and spending time with his grandchildren. His devotion for his dogs was truly indescribable. He loved taking long road trips and was always on the hunt for the next best place to eat with his wife, Denise. He was there when anyone needed him, always putting everyone ahead of himself, no matter the situation. He wouldn’t want you to mourn over his death. Instead, cherish the memories and preserve his love. Durk was preceded in death by his brothers, Derek and Darren Simmons and a sister, Louise Simmons. Left to cherish his memory: his wife of 11 years, Denise Simmons; daughter, Jessica Simmons (Michael); two sons, Joey Simmons (Cheryl) and Jeremy Wishart (April); three step-sons, Ray Erich (Elizabeth), Adam Erich, and Tyler Erich; a sister, Dewyonna Sites (Joshua); eighteen grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. with a visitation hour beginning at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. A reception will follow immediately afterwards until 4 p.m. at The American Legion, Post 327 at 705 Lesner Ave, Norfolk VA. Durks favorite flower was a black rose however, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
