Jason "Jay" Barrie Gile Obituary

Jason "Jay" Barrie Gile, 63, a devoted son of Ipswich, passed away Friday afternoon February 14, 2025 after a long illness. Born in West Springfield, MA on December 27, 1961, he was the son of Barrie A. and Elizabeth M. (Lavoie) Gile.

A true hometown kid at heart, Jay was raised and educated in Ipswich, graduating from Ipswich High School in 1979, where he was a member of both the hockey and lacrosse teams. After graduation, Jay enlisted in the US Air Force, serving his country until his honorable discharge.  Jay's pursuit of education took him to UMass Amherst, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. Though his military service and studies led Jay away for a time, he would return to Ipswich - his cherished home throughout his life.

From winter afternoons playing hockey at Baker's Pond with friends to watching storms crash along Pavilion Beach, Jay was happiest out in the natural beauty of his hometown. His quick smile and helping hand were familiar sights around town, where neighbors knew they could always count on Jay in times of need. A passionate Boston sports fan and an avid skier who found his greatest joy on the slopes of Wildcat Mountain, Jay shared these loves with friends and family throughout his life. It was in Ipswich where Jay formed his lifelong friendship with Bill McCarthy, a bond that remained unwavering from their earliest days to Jay's final moments. He was also blessed with the brotherly bonds he shared with his cousins Kevin and Phil Burek, relationships he treasured throughout his life.

Above all, Jay was a devoted son whose deep friendship with his mother Betty was a cornerstone of both their lives. Their weekly Friday dinners were a cherished ritual filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of easy companionship that comes from a lifetime of supporting one another through life's joys and challenges. He is survived by his mother Betty Dillon of Ipswich, his father Barrie Gile of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, his aunts Diana Burek of Ipswich and Irene Lavoie of West Newbury, his stepbrothers: John and Linda Dillon of Groveland, James and Laura Dillon, Kevin and Stacy Dillon, and Stephen and Vicky Dillon, all of Lynnfield, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jason was predeceased by his stepfather John J. Dillon and his uncle Raymond Lavoie, Jr.
