Emilia Mauras-Vega Candelario peacefully passed away at home on February 14th, 2025, surrounded by her loving
family. Emilia was born on July 15, 1938, in Patillas, Puerto Rico to loving parents, Epifiano Vega and Manuela Mauras.
Emilia was a devoted wife to the late Rafael Candelario Sr., whom she will be joining in Heaven alongside with her
three brothers: Miguel Vega, Francisco Vega and Pedro Gonzalez.
Emilia Candelario was a devoted Catholic mother and wife who selflessly loved to take care of others. Career wise,
she was a seamstress in the fashion industry in NYC. She and her late husband shared a passion for gardening;
together, they joined the local community garden in Corliss Park. Independently, she had her own flower garden on
her front lawn that drew in admirers and curious minds, many whom she delved into conversation with and grew
loving friendships. In her passtime, she enjoyed taking trips to the casino, playing loteria and dominos with her
friends as well as hosting holidays in her home.
Although Milla, as known to her beloved, served many roles throughout her life, the one she treasured the most was
being a loving, nurturing and stern mother to her children. She is survived by her adoring children: Janet Barreto,
Rafael Candelario Jr., the late, Jose Candelario Sr., Ana Candelario, Cindy Candelario and daughter in-law, Marisol
Candelario. She is also survived by twin sister Lucy Vega and loving sister in-law, Ada Lind.
Emilia, Mama, was a loving grandmother to: Joshua Llanos, Kuei-Chen White, Zhai-Yeng White, Ares Barreto,
Justin Rivera, Sincere Candelario Sr., Natasha Henry, Meadow Candelario, Angel Barreto, Jose Candelario Jr., Alex
Morales, Jaiana Llanos and Gabriel Candelario. As well as being a great grandmother to: Sincere Candelario Jr.,
Skye Rivera, and Lunah Rivera.
The Candelario family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to all of her loved ones. We also would like to thank
Samaritan Hospital and St. Peter's Hospital for their compassion during her illness and final hospitalization.
Mama lived a life of joy, love, laughter and deep faith. Her position as the matriarch of this family has positively
impacted many generations and will be deeply missed. Family and friends are invited for a viewing from 9:00am to
12:00pm on Saturday, February 22th, 2025 at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home. Services will be held
immediately after at 12:00pm. Burial will be alongside her beloved husband the late Rafael Candelario Sr. at
