Shawn Dow Connolly, our “highly advanced quadriplegic” passed away on February 14th, 2025, age 51. He was born in Cottonwood AZ, and died in Cottonwood AZ. His spirit snuck right out of his broken body in silence, and ever so peacefully. He was at his home with his wife and two of his sisters at his side. His daughter Erin was there via FaceTime. Shawn’s generous, loving, gracious heart failed his body, but never failed his strong will for life.
He loved outdoors. He was a mountain climber and mountain biker in his young adult life. He broke his neck at age 23 from a mountain bike accident and became quadriplegic. He studied at the Art Institute of Colorado, and later studied at ASU. He was very independent, taking care of his own needs in many aspects. Five years later, in 2002, he met Sadie Mallery. He instantly charmed her with his happy outlook and his love for working. He was a computer teacher for many years. Shawn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Day Saints. He married Sadie in the Salt Lake Temple Feb. 7th, 2003, and lived together in Cottonwood until his death.
He was a perfectionist. He spent many cold nights in the rain, perched inside his handicapped vehicle, doors open, feet rain-soaked with a tripod holding a large, heavy, camera lens and hours of patience. His passion was lightning photography. He sold some of his work, and it gave him great joy and pride when anyone praised his skill. He loved creating, and was well versed in adapting camera equipment to mount to his wheelchair or car. He loved road trips, he loved blasting loud music, and he loved letting the wind fill the car and his sunshine soul.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kay Dow Connolly and Barbara B. Connolly. He leaves behind his wife, Sadie Connolly; his daughter, Erin Connolly, her companion, and her 5 children. Shawn is survived by his supportive siblings, Steve Connolly (Colette Connolly), Tammy Masterson (Dave Masterson), Todd Connolly (Kim Connolly), Robin Butler (Jon Butler), and Carrie Reay (Phil Reay).
Services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 1st, 2025 at 11am, 1377 Hombre Dr, Cottonwood AZ, 86326.
