Licinio "Lou" O. Bastos Obituary

Licinio "Lou" Oliveira Bastos, 73, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, CT. Born in Branca, Aveiro, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio De Bastos and Maria Do Carmo Afonso De Oliveira. As a teenager, Lou immigrated to the state of Rhode Island. He remained a resident of Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the next three decades. Lou began his lifelong career as a truck driver around the age of 21, working for Global Van Lines in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He eventually started his own business as an owner/operator and contracted through W.J. Donovan Mayflower Trucking Company, in Massachusetts. He traveled the country, coast to coast. This career allowed him to gather many interesting memories that were shared via colorful stories, like only a long-haul trucker could. Lou retired, reluctantly, about three years ago.

At the time of his death, Lou resided in Waterbury, CT. In the last three years, he built a home in Murtosa, Aveiro, Portugal, where he planned to reside most of the year, in his retirement. Lou was predeceased by his brothers Helio "Al" Bastos and Aceio "Ace" Bastos. Lou leaves behind his two daughters: Melissa Bastos of Smithfield, RI and Kimberly Bastos of Rehoboth, MA.; his brother Nemesio Bastos, of Kissimmee, Florida (Maria Armanda, spouse); his beloved grandson, Aiden Frances DiPalma and his nieces and nephews, residing in Florida and Connecticut (Nemesio, Michael, Jessica, Melissa, Cynthia, and Nathan). Lou also leaves behind his loving partner of 25 years, Maria Dias Pinto; her two daughters, Diane Magalhaes and Nancy Fellows (Richard, spouse); as well as their children, who considered Lou a grandfather to them (Nicole, Samuel, Rachael, Theodore, and August).

Family and friends are invited to a wake for Lou on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 11 AM to 12 Noon, followed by a brief Catholic blessing at noon in the Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave., Pascoag, RI.
