Samuel S. Dunio, 81, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was one of 11 siblings, the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Cushion) Dunio.
Surviving is his loving wife, Linda (Freet); 3 children: David Dunio, Denise Dunio (Sara Burke) and Matthew Dunio (Nicole Schettig); 8 grandchildren: Larissa, David Jr., Makenna, Raquel, Roman, Nina, Giuliana, and Olivia; a great-granddaughter, Mila; 4 siblings: Marie, Joe, Steve (Donna) and Michael (Francine); and many nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his siblings: Eva, Angela, Dorothy, Frank, John and Rick.
Sam was a graduate of Altoona High School and served in the United States Army.
He retired after 39 years from AmTram as a bus driver, with a spectacular safety record in driving.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, storytelling, and Western movies. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and a friends, usually eating and sharing a meal.
Sam was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday, February 25, 2025 in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
