Doris Powers, of Republic, MO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on February 14, 2025. Doris was 74 years old. She was born on February 17, 1950, in San Gabriel, California, to James and Opal Odessa (Dockens) Giles.

She married Michael Powers on July 30, 1965, and this union was blessed with four children, Andrea, Eric, Laura, and Bridget. The family relocated to Missouri in the 1970’s. Doris loved being a wife and a mother, and when Michael was diagnosed with Diabetes, she knew she wanted to be able to take care of him, so she decided to pursue a degree in nursing. She attended Drury University and then St. John’s School of Nursing, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in nursing, at the age of 40. Doris worked in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit at Cox South for many years, then at Select Specialty Hospital and finishing her career as a charge nurse at Sonshine Manor. Doris enjoyed reading, sewing, shopping and gardening, both flowers and vegetables; most of these things she did at home, so to spend time with her beloved little dogs. Doris always put everyone before her, she was selfless and would do anything for anyone. Doris loved her family, sharing game nights, family meals and just spending time with them, that was her biggest joy in life.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Michael whom she lost in 2007 after 42 amazing years of marriage, and her sister Jeannie Medley.

She is survived by her children; Andrea Knox, Eric Powers(Wanja), Laura Peltz (Joe), and Bridget Winburn (Perry); grandchildren Aaron (Destiny) Knox, Brittani Powers, Michael Powers, Zaina Karanja, Zachary Karanja, Malaika Karani, Colton Peltz, Casey Peltz, Caytlin Peltz, Brandi Winburn and Tyler Winburn, three great-grandchildren Hayden, Greysin and Wilder Knox, her brother James Giles, sister Alice Giles-Cowen as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family and countless friends.

Doris will be laid to rest privately, in Lindsey Cemetery in Republic.
