Jene Hobert Ellis Obituary

Jene H. Ellis, 96, passed away February 14, 2025, and entered heaven to be with the love of his life, Louise, on Valentine’s Day.  Jene was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple where he served as an usher and worked with the bus ministry. He retired from Paul Watts Trucking after driving truck for over 60 years. Jene and Louise had two children and raised Louise’s sister, as well as their 3 grandchildren, as their own in the many years they lived in Kenmore, Ohio.  Jene was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Louise Ellis, brother Paul Ellis and sister Pearl McPhearson, as well as many friends and family. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Cartwright, son Fred Ellis, sister-in-law Jean (Richard) Rudolph, granddaughters Sheila (Vince) Goodman, Jamie (Stephen) Wellert and grandson Benjamin (Tanesa) Ellis.  As well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In the later years of his life, Jene enjoyed every moment with his family from speaking to his son Fred, who followed in his dad’s footsteps, everyday about life on the road and all the places they both drove, to just visiting and talking with  family. Jene was a man that loved God and his family above everything and was the model of what a father should be to his 3 grandchildren. He raised his grandson Benjamin from the day he was born, and Benjamin cared for Jene until his death.  Jene’s great-grandchildren, Pyper and Phoebe Riley, and Rachel and Kyle Ellis, held a very special place in his heart and him in theirs.  They are so blessed to be able to have known and loved him. His passing leaves a very big hole in the lives of those who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. on Friday at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Ernie Kemppel, followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
