Milfred "Pat" Lionel Garrett Obituary

Milfred L. "Pat" Garrett of Greenville passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 90 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Pat was a 1954 graduate of Parker High School where he was active in Student Government. He was honored to serve as the Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Student Body. He went on to attend Furman University.

In 1964, after working for Cely Construction Company, Pat and his father created ML Garrett Construction Company. When his sons, Patrick and Todd and grandson, Jason became adults, they also joined the company. The company focused on commercial building, and he was proud of the over 450 churches he built around the upstate over the 52 years, and the alliances and friends he made with the congregations. After a wonderful career, Pat closed the business in 2016 to enjoy retirement.

Pat and his family joined Trinity United Methodist Church, which is now Open Hearts United Methodist Church in 1962. While faithfully worshiping, he also took pride in serving on most committees and boards, including chair of the Trustees Committee and the Administrative Board. He was also active in the United Methodist Volunteers in Missions and helped organize mission trips and was on the building team to build churches and schools in Haiti.

He loved taking time with his wife, Jean, whom he met in first grade and developed a life-long bond as they continued attending school together. They loved to attend Clemson Football games, taking trips to the lake and the coast, and regularly attending the Southeast Wildlife Expo, since it always fell on his birthday.

Pat was blessed by the many wonderful people in his long life that he has called his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean (Eskew) Garrett; children, Teresa Young (Ed), Tammy Waldron (Rick), Patrick Garrett (Tracee), and Todd Garrett (Tammy). He had six grandchildren, Jason Vickery, Morgan Pelanda (Blaine), Madison Sittmann (Kurt), Eric Waldron, Tyler Garrett, and Abigail Bechtol (Brett); two great-grandchildren, Colin Pelanda and Olive Bechtol; his surviving sibling, Melba Kidd; his sister- and brother-in-law, Louise and Tom Burden, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, and of course his favorite child - his dog, Troubles.

Pat was predeceased by father, Milford and mother, Violet (Morgan) Garrett; sister, Martha Dacus (Grover) and brother, Bob Garrett (Anne).

He left this world on his 90th birthday. Pat Garrett will be deeply missed by the many friends he has made over the years and by his loving family.
