With deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Donald F. Mabry, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, devoted pastor, and cherished friend, who departed this life on February 14, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on December 14, 1934, Don left an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of countless individuals throughout his remarkable journey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fate Dendy Mabry and Susannah Charlotte Jones Mabry, and his sister, Ann Mabry Whittington.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Eva Deil Fields Mabry; daughters, Donna Ann Mabry, Paula Claire Halle (Hugh), and Terri Lu Hensley (Larry); seven grandchildren, Donald Newman (Wendy), Patrick Newman (Sara), John Halle (Ashley), James Halle (Leslie), Alyse Halle Wilson (Logan), Evan Hensley (Jennifer), and April Shepherd; 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
An ordained minister since 1960, Don dedicated over six decades to the service of God and his community. Throughout his ministry, he pastored a congregation in Wyoming, served at the home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, and the Florida Baptist Convention before becoming Director of Missions for the Louisiana Baptist Convention, a role he held for 23 years. He also served as Interim Executive Director of the Dakota Baptist Convention and with a passion for education, he took on the mantle of Director of the New Orleans Baptist Seminary Extension Center, inspiring future leaders in faith.
In retirement, Don found joy in teaching the All Welcome Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, where he explored the depths of Scripture with enthusiastic students. He embraced life with vigor, including camping, golf, fishing, accepting invitations to preach and pursuing a career in commercial real estate. His greatest joy was spending time with family and following his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities in sports.
A Memorial service for Don will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, Louisiana, with Dr. B. David Brooks, Reverend Jonathon Murphy, and Reverend Buddy Day officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, Louisiana.
The family wishes to acknowledge the compassion and care provided by Tori Stewart, Tomeca Drakes and Vonna Hurts.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church Missions, 5011 Jackson Street, Alexandria, Louisiana 71303 or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, Louisiana 71211.
