Preston GETER Obituary

Preston Geter, age 84, died February 14, 2025, in Arlington, Virginia, from the effects of his advancing dementia.

Preston was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on April 23, 1940, to the late William Geter, Sr. and Leola Foster Geter. He spent his early years and went to school in Spartanburg.

He owned a small trucking company for many years, and drove all around the Eastern United States. He would happily regale anyone who would listen with stories about his adventures.

In 1964, Preston married Edith Maxine Edwards, and they had three sons, Preston Jr., Phillip, and Mario. Preston and Maxine subsequently divorced. In his later years, after settling in Arlington, Virginia, Preston had a loving life partner, Virginia Bethel, for many years, until her death in 2020.

Preston was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia, and also the Cathedral of St. Thomas More, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.

Preston was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers William and Walter, and his sisters Maryann and Marthanna. He is survived by his sons, Preston Geter Jr., Mario E. Geter, Phillip F. Geter, Raymond Crooks, and Steven Geter; his brother, Lee Geter; and his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins, and other extended family members.

A Celebration of Life memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2700 S. 19th Street, Arlington, Virginia. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately afterwards in the OLQP church fellowship hall.
