Herman A. Balaban, age 92 of Manitowoc, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

Herman was born on March 31, 1932, in Sioux Falls, SD, son of the late Leon and Muriel (Zeiger) Balaban. He grew up in Manitowoc and was a 1950 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Following high school, he attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. On September 10, 1954, Herman was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving and being discharged on September 30, 1956, as a 1st Lt. Herman worked and later owned the Berks Apparel Shop in Manitowoc, for 32 years. He was a member of Anshe Poale Zedek Synagogue, Bnai Brith, Eagles, and the Masons. Herman was a volunteer at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Center for 20,941 hours.

Survivors include two nephews and their wives: Mark (Cindy) Balaban, Manitowoc, Michael (Nancy) Balaban, Manitowoc; proud great-uncle of: Scott (Gabrielle) Balaban, Carly Balaban, Emily Balaban, Brady Balaban; great-great-uncle to: Finley and Ari Balaban; other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leon and Muriel Balaban; one beloved brother and sister-in-law: Edward (Anna) Balaban.

Herman’s wishes were to be cremated with no formal funeral services.
