Catherine Hoffman, known to many by Kay, Ana to her grandsons, Aunt Babe, and to school age friends as Rusty, a beacon of generosity and kindness, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 90 in LaGrange, Illinois. Born on July 14, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, Catherine's life was a testament to her selfless nature and friendly demeanor that touched the lives of everyone she met.
Catherine was the loving wife of the late Ralph Hoffman and a devoted mother to her children, Linda (Daniel) Drees, James Hoffman, and Jack Hoffman. She was a cherished grandmother to Alison, Kirk, and Derek, and a close aunt to Vicki, Nancy, and Frankie, as well as to many other nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and guidance. She was especially close to her longtime high school friend Dorothy.
Throughout her life, Catherine was a dedicated employee at Jewel Osco, and Costco where she formed lasting friendships and was known for her unwavering work ethic and positive spirit. Her colleagues will remember her as a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration within the workplace. At an extremely young age, Catherine spent many summers with the Fischer family in Manchester, Iowa, working on a dairy farm and a tomato canning plant. The Fischers became a second family. A relationship that continued for over 87 years.
Catherine's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She had an insatiable love for travel, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart. Her four-legged companions, Ginger, Holly, Candy, and Amber, were a source of immense joy and comfort to her. Catherine's bond with her grandsons, Kirk and Derek, was particularly strong, and she played an integral role in their lives, imparting wisdom and love in equal measure.
Having grown up during the Depression, Catherine developed a remarkable ability to cook, a skill she took great pride in and often used to bring her family together. Her home was a hub of delicious meals and warm gatherings, where laughter and stories were shared over her lovingly prepared dishes.
Catherine's legacy is one of boundless generosity and kindness. She lived her life with a selfless dedication to her family and friends, always putting the needs of others before her own.
