Wayne King Hughes, a cherished member of the Lexington community, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on October 20, 1931, in Lexington, KY, Wayne's life was a testament to service, dedication, and the love of family and craftsmanship.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Margaret Hughes, his daughter Janet Lynn Hughes, and his parents Herman and Tina Hughes. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Johnny Hughes, his grandson Tyler Weathers and wife Brittany, his grandson Cory Weathers, and his great-grandchildren Hunter, Heidi, and Holden Weathers.
A proud Air Force veteran, Wayne served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he continued to live a life of service as a dedicated Lexington firefighter, a role that allowed him to protect and serve his community for many years. Wayne's bravery and commitment to helping others were hallmarks of his character, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Wayne's passion extended beyond his professional life into his personal interests. An exceptionally skilled woodworker, he created beautiful pieces that not only showcased his talent but also his attention to detail and patience. His handiwork was not just a hobby but a way of life, as he poured his heart into every project, ensuring that each piece was crafted with precision and care.
A visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street.
