Stephen Mathias Andert Obituary

Stephen Andert, 85, passed away at home on Friday, February 14, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana. He was born on March 29, 1939, to Joseph and Pauline (Steinhofer) Andert.

Steve proudly served in the United States Army in Korean as a member of the First Cavalry Division. On February 19, 1966, he married Rosemary Nemeth, and together they bought his parents’ farm in the 1970s, where Andert Farms has remained in the family for over 100 years. Steve continued to work the dairy farm into his 70s and also served as the president of the St. Joseph County National Farmers Organization (NFO). He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Steve had a warm and friendly nature—he never met a stranger—and he especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his six children: Stephen (Brenda) Andert of South Bend, Janice Andert of South Bend, Pam (Tasos) Anastasiou of Galien, Chris Andert of South Bend, Ed (Yesenia) Andert of Lakeville, and Rosanne Andert of Oregon; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Joel) Miller, Jeffrey Smith, Michael (Annalise) Smith, Jerry Andert, John Andert, Evan Andert, and Haley Andert; two great-grandchildren, Céleste Smith and Estelle Smith; two sisters, Paula (David) Bashover and Josephine Wegh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Nemeth) Andert; his infant daughter Barbara; his parents, Joseph and Pauline Andert; and his sister, Mary Vukovits.
