Mary Maxine Mounts (née Campbell) passed away peacefully at home with her son and daughter on February 14, 2025 after a short illness. Mary was born on February 9, 1935 in Ary Kentucky and spent the first few years of her life in the Bethany Children’s Home after the death of her father when she was 3 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvis Mounts who died in November of 1968.

As a young widow, Mary devoted herself to providing a safe and nurturing home for her son and daughter, working in a variety of positions at the Lexington Herald Leader for 35 years until her retirement. She was known for her quiet determination, perseverance, and self-reliance. She loved traveling and spending time with her family, and was especially proud of her 6 grandchildren and 12 grandchildren, all of whom recently spent time with her in the weeks preceding her death. She is survived by her loving son and daughter, Anthony Wayne Mounts and Doris Jean Gilbert, and two brothers, Noah and Carl Campbell.

Visitation will be 20 February from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Milward-Southland, 391 Southland Dr, Lexington, Ky. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, 21 February at the Eastland Park Church of the Nazarene, 1605 Jennifer Rd., Lexington, Ky. If you would like to honor Mary’s memory, the family invites contributions to the Eastland Park Church’s Freely Given Café Ministry or Compassionate Ministries of the Church of the Nazarene, both of which causes she was passionate about.
