Ann Smerconish Hauze Obituary

Ann S. Hauze, 97, passed away peacefully on February 14 at Mountaintop Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center while in Hospice Care.


Born in Audenreid on September 16, 1927, she was the daughter of Wassil and Mildred (Walker) Smerconish. In addition to her parents, Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James D. Hauze, Sr. and her brother Walter Smerconish, her son David Hauze and her great-granddaughter Jordan Ruth Peterson.


Ann had many jobs over her lifetime, including as a Youth buyer for Deisroths, a clerk for the Leader Store, and later as a private duty LPN. She was a resident of West Hazleton for many years, and then a guest at the Laurel’s before moving to the Mountaintop facility.


She was a member of Diamond United Methodist Church for many years and more recently a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Hazleton.


Ann enjoyed going to the beach with family and camping along the Delaware River with her husband. She was an avid Penn State football fan and loved going to Beaver Stadium. In more recent years, she played a lot of bingo.


She enjoyed cooking Sunday family dinners and baking dozens of Christmas cookies. Holiday meals were her specialty.


She is survived by three children, James Hauze,Jr, husband of Charlotte; Linda Sabia, wife of Louis; Kimberly Sharonoff, wife of the Reverend Father George Sharonoff and her daughter-in-law, Mary Hauze.


Other survivors include her grandchildren Lori Peterson, wife of Kerry; Lisa Detweiler, wife of Adam; Jeremy Hauze, husband of Kylie; Amanda Ehrenreich, wife of Mark; Angela Locher, wife of Lance; Christian Hauze and fiancée Hannah Hussion; Alexander Pyle, Stephen Pyle and fiancée Kristen Snyder, and Tatiana Sharonoff. She has five great-grandchildren, Nora Peterson, Jack Peterson, Abraham Locher, Davina Locher and Emerson Locher. Ann is also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday from Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home – Crematory, 530 W. Butler Drive, Drums, Pa 18222.


Family and friends are invited to a viewing period that will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the start of the service. Father George Sharonoff will be officiating.


Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.


Memorial gifts may be donated to St. Stephen’s Russian Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 181, Old Forge, PA 18518.
