Milton J Blackington Obituary

Sunapee, NH: Milton J. Blackington, 85, passed away at his home in Sunapee on February 14, 2025.  He was born on April 16, 1939 in Newport, NH to the late John and Beatrice (Putnam) Blackington.

Milton grew up in Croydon and graduated from Newport High School with the class of 1957.  He served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Milton married Sandra MacWilliams and they spent almost 60 years together living in Newport and then in Sunapee.  Milton operated his own company working as an artesian well driller and also worked as a plow driver.

Milton built his home in Sunapee and always enjoyed working around the house and tinkering in the garage.  He loved his gardens, liked collecting things, and enjoyed family camping vacations.  In his younger years, he liked to go hiking and fishing.  He started and ran his own sawmill out of his garage when he was in his 70's.  He will be missed at his Tuesday morning breakfast group that met in Washington each week.

Milton was predeceased by parents and by his sister, Maydra Sue Smith.  Surviving family members include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Sandra Blackington; son, Tad Blackington and his husband, Wes Plant of Sunapee, daughter, Jill Currier and her husband, Brian of Newport; and grandchildren, Brian Chrimes and Heather Morrison and her husband, Peter.

A graveside service in Eastman Cemetery in Sunapee will be held at a later date.
