Roger D. Gunneson Obituary

Roger D. Gunneson, a cherished son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away on February 14, 2025, in Hinsdale, Illinois. He was born on April 24, 1943 in Sparta, Michigan. Roger’s life was a commitment to honesty, hard work, fulfilling his dream of being a cowboy, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

Roger’s early years in Michigan were filled with a boy’s adventures that he would recount to others often. He loved recounting his years as a professional saddle bronc rider, bareback rider, and bull rider at numerous rodeos around the Midwest.  He loved riding and training horses as well as teaching others how to ride, whether in a rodeo setting or for personal riding.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, and their family.  He was a devoted father to his son, the late Justin (Lynne) Gunneson, Jody (Travis) Coomer, Courtney (Rick) Hanson, and Cate (Brad) Wysoglad. His legacy continued through his grandchildren, Hunter, Brooke, and Tyler Gunneson; Casey, Emma, and Ben Coomer; Miles, Mason, and Morgan Hanson; and Asher, Chloe, and Logan Wysoglad, as well as his three great-grandchildren.  Roger’s role as patriarch was one he cherished deeply.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Leva Gunneson and his brother, Jerry (Karen) Gunneson.

No mention of Roger would be complete without acknowledging his most trusted and faithful companion, his Border Collie/Lab mix, Ellie.  Ellie’s loyalty and companionship was a constant source of happiness for Roger.

Roger’s life was a testament to the power of connection and the importance of family.  His stories will continue to be told, his laughter and joy of life will echo in the hearts of those who loved him, and his influence will remain a guiding force. As we say goodbye to Roger D. Gunneson, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved.
