It is with great sadness that the family of Jay S. Palmer of Janesville, Wisconsin announces his passing on Friday, February 14, 2025; at home with his family at his bedside. He was 97 years old.
Jay was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 27, 1927; the son of Seth and Margaret (McDonald) Palmer. On December 3, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he married his beloved wife, Mary “Jeane” (Guidry) Palmer. They most recently celebrated 75 years of marriage.
Jay, for much of his working life, was a lithographer by trade in the printing industry. He also, for several years, was a professional musician singing and playing guitar at various clubs and music venues throughout the Chicago area. During his time in Janesville, he was the featured guitarist in the Blue Velvet Orchestra which performed regularly at Janesville’s senior center.
Jay was proud to have honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hornet during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Jeane” Palmer; his two sons, Robert (Kathy) Palmer and Donald Palmer; as well as his three grandchildren: Robert Jay (Bonny) Palmer, Michael (Emily) Palmer and Emily (Fred) Miller; great grandchildren: Milo, Robert “RT”, Jackson, Eisley, Everett and William. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Margaret Palmer; and siblings Gwen, Frank, Charles, Ruth, William and Rodney.
A private service will be held with committal and Military Honors held at Oak Hill Cemetery. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL DIRECTORS is assisting his family.
