It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby F. Crager, age 86, who departed this life peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Bobby faced a brief illness, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Born in Prestonsburg, KY, Bobby called Flatwoods, KY, home for more than 55 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Marietta (Bingham) Crager, as well as his brother, James Buford Crager, and sister, Barbara Lynn Knicley Hoyle.
Bobby leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Judith Hicks Crager. His legacy continues with his two daughters, Jennifer (Kelly) Crager Justice and Lea Ann (Keith) Crager Hillman; along with two cherished grandchildren, Blake (Julia) Justice and Morgan (Brendon) Gannon. Bobby also had the joy of being a great-grandfather to his precious Violet Justice. He is further mourned by his dear sister, Brenda (Jack) Helton Davis. He is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Jenny Crager, Janet Hicks, Brenda Porter, and Jeffrey Hicks, along with the loving faculty and staff of McDowell Elementary School.
Bobby had an unwavering passion for serving both his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. His commitment to public service was evident during his time on the Flatwoods Kentucky City Council, where he dedicated 26 years as Mayor of Flatwoods, KY. Bobby was a founding member of the Flatwoods Lions Club, where he dedicated his time as treasurer. Bobby began his remarkable career as an educator as a Biology Teacher and Football Coach at Prestonsburg High School, and later retired from the Russell Independent School System, where he served as Principal of McDowell Elementary School.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Bobby held various leadership roles and was a Sunday School Teacher at Advance Methodist Church in Flatwoods, KY, where he inspired many through his kindness and faith.
He was a kind and compassionate man with a humble heart, who showed empathy to those in need. When at home, he enjoyed watching UK Basketball, Cincinnati Red’s or unwinding through reading or Bible study.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Advance Methodist Church Building Fund, or to Ashland Community Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Advance Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Friday, at the Church.
