Joan Lutz Goetz, 88, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025. She was born March 19, 1936 to Carl and Evelyn Lutz in Rome, NY. Joan was a faithful member of her local community and she volunteered her service wherever called. 

Joan was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and Utica School of Commerce. She married Jerrold C. Goetz on June 8, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church in Rome. They enjoyed a wonderful life together with their children and grandchildren until his passing in 1993. She enjoyed many activities including golfing, camping with her family, traveling, and music. Joan lead a full life faithful to her church and always helped her neighbor. She was a communicant of St. Josephs church for over 60 years and a proud member of their choir for over 30 years. 

She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She cherished spending quality time with all of them. 

Joan is survived by her children Judy (Michael) Smith, Jeff (Janet) Goetz, granddaughters Courtney (Kyle) Heinemann and Lindsay (Jonathan) Stone, great grand children Marnie, Banks, Wells, Crosby and Rinnie Heinemann; Judah and Levi Stone; Brother Robert (Joan) Lutz; sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Marlar and brother-in-law Charles (Kathleen) Goetz, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She preceded in death by her husband Jerry, brothers in law Harvey Marlar and Winslow (Mila) Goetz, her parents and in-laws Joseph and Doris Goetz.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at 12:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. Family and friends are invited to call at St Joseph’s Church prior to the Mass on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
