Irven Otto Brown, 94, of Fola, WV, passed away on February 14, 2025, following an extended illness.
He was born on September 30, 1930, to Earley and Dicy Brown of Ovapa and was preceded in death by sisters Arbutus Brady, Audra Hopkins, Gerline Samples, and Myrtle Belle Arbogast, by brothers Denvil, Glenvil, Ronald, Stanley (infant) and William (child); by his grandson, Allen, and great grandsons, Christian (infant) and Xyler (infant).
He was a loving husband for 71 years to Greta (Legg) and devoted father to Grant (Sandy), Keith (Valerie), Paul (Carol), and special family Luther “PeeWee” (Martha) Nottingham. He had 15 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Arlene Jett and Sylvia Summers.
He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran; coach of little boys baseball; Scoutmaster of Troop 130; a member of the VFW; an EMT for Clay Ambulance Service; an employee for Clay County Schools as well as serving as a Board Member for several years; and he retired as a barber in Clay after nearly 60 years. He was a Member and Deacon of Fola Missionary Baptist Church.
For their support of Clay County football teams, he and his wife, Greta, were WSAZ Channel 3 Hometown Heroes and inducted into the Clay County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Services will be Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Fola Missionary Baptist Church, Fola, WV. Visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Funeral at 2:00 pm with Daniel Tanner officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Kanawha Hospice and grandson, Alex Brown, for their exceptional care these past few weeks.
